Beware of Phishing Emails and Messages
Phishing scams are fake emails, SMS messages, or WhatsApp messages that try to steal your passwords, OTPs, or bank details. These messages often pretend to be from banks, delivery companies, or popular apps. Never click suspicious links and always verify the sender before sharing information.
Never Share OTPs or PIN Numbers
One of the most common scams in India is the OTP scam. Fraudsters may call pretending to be customer care agents and ask for your OTP, debit card PIN, or UPI PIN. Remember that no bank or official company will ever ask for these details.
Avoid Fake Shopping Websites
Many scam websites offer expensive products at very cheap prices to attract buyers. Before buying anything online, check reviews, website spelling, return policies, and payment methods. Avoid sites that only accept direct bank transfers or UPI payments.
Be Careful with UPI Payment Requests
UPI scams are increasing quickly. If someone sends you a payment request, remember that entering your UPI PIN sends money out of your account. Many people get tricked into thinking they are receiving money when they are actually paying scammers.
Watch Out for Fake Job Offers
Scammers often promise high-paying jobs with little work. They may ask for registration fees, training fees, or security deposits. Genuine companies do not ask candidates to pay money before joining. Always research the company before applying.
Use Strong Passwords
Weak passwords make it easier for scammers to hack your accounts. Use long passwords with numbers, symbols, and capital letters. Avoid using the same password for all accounts and turn on two-factor authentication wherever possible.
Avoid Using Public Wi-Fi for Banking
Public Wi-Fi at cafes, airports, and malls may not be secure. Hackers can sometimes access your information when you use public networks. Avoid logging into bank accounts or making payments on public Wi-Fi.
